Zone Two Cardio

There's been a lot of talk about Zone 2 cardio in the fitness space lately. So, let's explore what this is, why it's beneficial, and how to get more of it.

What are the benefits of Zone 2?

Zone 2 training can bring significant benefits to your overall health.

  • It strengthens the heart and benefits the vascular system by delivering oxygenated blood to different body parts.

  • It improves recovery time, aerobic abilities, and insulin sensitivity.

  • It improves metabolic health, which reduces lifestyle diseases such as obesity, heart disease, and type II diabetes.

  • It improves mitochondrial growth and fat utilization during exercise

  • It helps reduce stress and anxiety, enabling an endorphin release

Is Zone 2 cardio good for fat loss?

Yes. In Zone 2, your body leaps on fat rather than carbohydrates as its primary fuel source. This means that you're burning more of your calories from stored fat, which can lead to a slimmer waistline.

It works exceptionally well when combined with strength training. If you have more muscle mass, your Zone 2 cardio results will present themselves more quickly.

How do I know if I’m in Zone 2?

Your breath and heart rate are elevated, but you could keep going for a while. You should be able to have a conversation but not be able to sing.

How can I add more Zone 2 cardio to my life?

ZYF Barre Fusion classes are unique in several ways. One way is that we incorporate cardio.  And that cardio is usually right in Zone 2.  Sign up for a live class or do one of the Barre Fusion recordings I send out on Saturdays.  If you are not already a member, use the link below to try us out for free for 2 weeks.
